Mika & NYC (Part 2 of 2)
I can concentrate on recording much better in NYC. In Japan, there're many times when I'm told "We have to finish this recording by today", since other urgent works are often scheduled suddenly. But in NY, we can spend much more time. And additionally, it becomes so good for a change to go to the studio by subway and to come back home by subway soon after recording.
I usually drive a car in Tokyo, but I don't want to drive in NYC, 'coz everyone in NY drives recklessly. I can easily find it just by getting in a cab.
To me, it means a lot to be able to do ordinary things in ordinary ways. That's my actual feeling.
When I'm staying in NYC, I am sometimes asked at a Japanese grocery store, "Are you Nakashima-san?" or "I often see you lately. Are you living here now?". But that isn't so many times as in Japan. And occasionally people who don't know me speak to me in a usual way. And I feel really good to be suddenly told, "Your shoes are very pretty!" in the subway.
In NYC, I think it's nice that people usually don't care what others might do in a good sense. No one looks at me weirdly even if I'm wearing my favorite makeup. And, only those who get interested in me speak to me naturally.
It was based on kind of an intuition that I made my dicision to live in NY alone. Now I come to think of it, from my teens, I've been always leading some part of my life trusting my intuition. My mom always says, "Once you made up your mind, you never listened to others".
Hopefully, for the future, it would be ideal for me to split my place to live fifty-fifty between in Tokyo and in NYC.
